If you’ve ever wondered if that painting in the garage or in the attic is worth any money, there’s an event happening in St. John’s later this week that could answer that very question.

Specialists with Cowley Abbott art auction are in town as part of a five city eastern tour.

They’re offering free verbal valuations of pieces of art that people want to bring by.

President Rob Cowley says they see many different types of art, including paintings, prints, and posters.

Cowley says they have about 10 factors they look at when determining the value of a piece of art.

For example, he says the artist is the most important. In this province works by Mary or Christopher Pratt, or David Blackwood would carry more value. Subject matter is also important, he says, as well as size and medium.

The free public event is taking place from 10 a.m. to 4 pm. on Thursday at MUN’s Signal Hill Campus.

People can also book private appointments throughout the week, also for free.
