RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Rapid City Arts Council (RCAC) Board of Directors is excited to announce The Dahl’s 50th Anniversary Benefit Art Auction, opening September 6, 2024. The event features over 50 works from Black Hills artists and collectors, culminating in a special gala on October 5. The auction showcases pieces by both long-time exhibitors and newcomers to the Dahl. Participating artists and collectors will receive up to 50% of the proceeds, with the remainder supporting the Dahl’s visual arts programs, maintaining “Always Free Admission,” and funding the “Next 50” initiative to enhance future experiences for visitors and artists.

“We are excited about the opportunities this auction will bring to our acclaimed exhibition and arts education programs at the Dahl,” said RCAC Executive Director Jacqui Dietrich. “These programs, which serve thousands of children and adults each year, thrive thanks to the creativity of our artists and the generous support of our community over the decades. And it’s an opportunity to take home some incredible art original to our community!”

The virtual auction will feature over 70 artworks by both established and emerging artists from the region. Bidding is exclusively online, running from Friday, September 6 at 7 PM through Saturday, October 5 at 6 PM. This event replaces The GOODS, offering a broader selection of artworks in various sizes, with a flexible format where artists choose how much of their sale to donate.

Alongside the virtual auction, the artwork will be displayed in an exhibition at the Dahl from September 6 to October 5, giving bidders the opportunity to view the pieces in person. All visitors are welcome to explore the exhibition during regular hours.

Bidding access is included with tickets to the 50th Anniversary Gala on October 5. For those unable to attend the gala, silent auction registration is available separately at thedahl.org/50years.

A special VIP Preview & Opening Reception will take place on Friday, September 6, from 5-7 PM, exclusively for Dahl members and patrons. This event offers members a first look at the works, a chance to meet the artists and curators, and the opportunity to purchase pieces before the auction opens to the public. Memberships start at $25 and can be purchased at thedahl.org or at the event.

On Saturday, October 5, 2024, the Rapid City Arts Council Board of Directors will host the 50th Anniversary Fundraiser Gala at the Dahl Arts Center. This special “Next 50” celebration will raise crucial funds to keep the Dahl thriving for future generations. The evening features cocktails and gallery viewing, a seated dinner, a live auction with exclusive experiences and Dale Lamphere artwork, followed by music and dancing. Black-tie optional. In addition, Friends of the Dahl will host a family-friendly Community Appreciation Night celebrating the Dahl’s 50th anniversary. The event includes art activities, performances, artist demonstrations, cake and ice cream, and a free concert with Toadstool Jamboree.
