Last month, the National Art Honor Society (NAHS) and William Floyd High School Literary Magazine Club combined their efforts to host the annual Arts Alive Night, featuring an art auction, living art gallery and coffee house event. Students, teachers, administrators, and members of the school community gathered to celebrate this fun, annual event, in which students demonstrated their musical talents, recited poetry, and performed in a living art gallery.

In one cafeteria, guests listened to student performances of music and poetry while enjoying coffee and refreshments from local businesses; while in another cafeteria attendees had the opportunity to bid on original student artwork and view the living art gallery. These impressive “live art” performances consisted of students re-creating famous works of art.

Students in both the NAHS and the Literary Magazine Club worked hard to put the event together under the direction of their advisors. NAHS advisors Erika Licausi and Theresa Bianco, chairperson of Fine Arts, oversaw the arts side of the event, while Literary Magazine advisors Skylar McGarrity and Holly Mascolo were in charge of the musical performances and refreshments.

Overall, this year’s event raised nearly $2,000, with all proceeds going toward senior scholarships for NAHS and Literary Magazine Club members. The NAHS and Literary Magazine Club look forward to continuing this tradition with next year’s event!
