The artworks for the inaugural ART021 HONG KONG Contemporary Art Fair will be divided into five sections: Galleries, Videos, Expansion, Sculpture, and Greater Bay Area Art Week (GBA Art Week).
The “Sculpture” section is a public art group exhibition featuring captivating sculptures that will be open to the public for free starting today.
Victoria Park will showcase nine sculptures, including pieces like “LOVE (Red Outside Violet Inside)” by American sculptor Robert Indiana and Joy Brown’s four bronze statues titled “True Self,” “Sweet Burden,” “Holding Up the Future,” and “Life’s Journey”, aiming to evoke childhood playfulness and nostalgia among citizens.
In addition, the Fringe Club’s rooftop will display the “Cheese” sculpture by Korean artist, Gwon Osang.
The “Galleries” section of the Fair will present over 40 selected pieces at Phillips Asia Headquarters in the WKCDA tower starting Thursday, spanning from contemporary parenting to digital artworks.
As for the “Videos” section, it will be stationed at the Asia Society Hong Kong Center with works from 13 Asian artists and beyond, such as Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Anri Sala, and Chen Chieh-jen.
The “Expansion” section aims to reform ways of approaching arts with special exhibitions, live performances, forums and more organized with the Fringe Club.
Hong Kong artist, Michael Lau, who is known as the “Godfather of designer toys,” will unveil his Augmented Reality (AR) work ‘WANer’ for the Fair, across the Galleries, Expansion, and Sculpture sections, inviting visitors to immerse themselves with their joyful moments.
The “GBA Art Week” section is a platform to foster collaboration with the art market in Hong Kong and the communities of the wider GBA area.
David Chau, co-founder of ART021 Group, revealed that over 20,000 VIP guests have registered for the fair, and around half hail from mainland China and overseas.
Chau projected that the Fair would provide significant economic advantages, with an estimated basic average spending of HK$30,000 per attendee except for the VIPs, potentially delivering economic benefits of HK$300 million.
