RALEIGH, N.C. — The annual Artsplosure festival will be returning to downtown Raleigh this weekend.
The annual event features a large art market with more than 170 juried visual artists from across the country. There will also be live music and performances.
The popular Kidsplosure section will feature musical performances, a magic show and lots of free craft opportunities including foam soap prints and community weaving.
Artplosure kicks off on Saturday at 11 a.m. and will wrap up around 7 p.m. Things continue on Sunday morning with the art market opening from 10 to 11 a.m. for those with accessibility needs. The festival will conclude at 6 p.m.
On Saturday, much of the state, including the Triangle, is under a Level 1 risk for severe weather.
“There could be a few strong to severe storms with some gusty winds possible,” WRAL meteorologist Anthony Baglione said. “As it looks now, this risk is not huge, but we will continue to watch for updates.”
What’s new at this year’s Artsplosure
This year’s large art installation is “Hand to Hand,” which features two giant puppet hands that are rigged like a sailing ship. The Squonkers perform music and climb a multi-tiered stage around the hands. Audience members are asked to grab the rigging of the hands and control the movement of the giant fingers.
WRAL is a proud sponsor of Artsplosure.
