Chattanooga artist’s painting is inspired by tourists

“The Chattanooga parks have been such a big part of my family’s life, and I know it’s a huge part of so many other people’s lives,” says local artist Lora Miller. “Chattanooga makes a very beautiful place to visit, and people who visit Chattanooga are often down at the Riverwalk or at the aquarium. I wanted to draw inspiration from visitors, so I named my piece ‘Chattanooga Visit.'”

Prior to moving to Chattanooga in 1973, Miller had moved several times; her childhood was spent living in Germany, where she was exposed to different types of art and culture. Coming to Chattanooga gave Miller a stability that she hadn’t had before, and she was finally able to fully take in and admire her surroundings. Her work often seeks out simple subjects, finding inspiration for her paintings from her own photography. She draws upon mixed media, collage elements, acrylics and watercolor to develop her subjects.
