Is this painting in Wisbech another Banksy or does Fenland have its own street artist emulating his style?

Street artist Banksy has been making national headlines with his multiple animal artworks across the capital in recent weeks.

But having created nine paintings in London, including his final mural on the shutter at the entrance to the city’s famous zoo, has the illusive artist turned his attention to Fenland?

Only weeks ago a painting reminiscent of Banksy’s style was spotted in a lay-by on the A47 on the outskirts of Wisbech. The image of a girl wearing a gas mask was spotted by a lorry driver on a piece of concrete near Elme Hall roundabout.

Now a Citizen reader has sent in another painting, querying whether it too could be by Banksy.

Jackson Kett said he spotted it on a wall in Moyse’s Bank.

The simple painting includes a painted frame made to look like it is hanging slightly askew with the words ‘Bless this mess’ on it. Below the painting is what looks like a discarded fridge or freezer and a whole load of empty cans.

Jackson, who sent in an image of the painting, said: “Saw the news articles about all of the Banksy paintings in London this week and it made me think back a couple of months to the ‘Banksy’ girl in the mask near Elme Hall. Then this afternoon (August 15) I saw this down Moyse’s Bank on my way home. I don’t know – I don’t think it is – but is it by Banksy himself? Or do we have a Fenland Banksy out there?“
