Nazi-Looted Monet Painting Returned to Relatives Over 80 Years Later

The FBI New Orleans announced an original painting by the famed impressionist Claude Monet was recovered after over 80 years. In 1940 Nazis in Austria seized the pastel Monet and other artwork from a Jewish family. The Bord de Mer painting was found because it was listed for sale at a Houston art gallery in 2023. About 600,000 pieces of art, books, and religious artifacts were stolen by the Nazis before and during WW2, the FBI Art Crime Team estimates.
