Policia Nacional have arrested a man at the Modane border crossing in France while transporting a painting claimed to be by Leonardo da Vinci.
The artwork was reportedly valued at €1.3 million.
However experts at the Museo Nacional del Prado confirmed it to be a fraudulent imitation worth only between three thousand and five thousand euros.
The investigation revealed that the export permit, although appearing authentic, had expired several months prior, making the exportation of the artwork illegal.
