Artist Nandita Chaudhuri, who will be showcasing her works in the city from tomorrow, talks about her creations

Nandita Chaudhuri, British artist of Indian origin, is known for her multidisciplinary approach to art that spans across canvas, digital film, installation, and print.

Talking to us about her unique solo show in Mumbai from April 17- May 5, at the Gallery Art And Soul, she says, “My solo multimedia show, titled Unmasked, is a first of its kind and is showcasing a rare immersive, sensory and thought-provoking experience. I don’t believe in being trapped by a single medium.”

She adds, “For the first time in Mumbai, technology-led art and NFT’s (Non-fungible token) are being shown on this scale. There are holograms, 3D art, sound effects, NFTs, projection mapping and light used, to create a unique immersive ambience. There are also many sculptures and paintings. My book has the same title, Unmasked, and while the paintings and the poems were created separately, over time my paintings started to feed off my poems in reverse.”

Nandita has a master’s degree in fine arts from London, and has been showing at various biennales over the years. “While I’m predominantly a painter, I work with multimedia and have done sculptures and installations across the world. Since painting is only 2D, I get to express myself more with sculptures and other 3D platforms,” says Nandita.

Elaborating on her exhibition she says, “Since my entire education was in the UK, my works are cutting edge and contemporary. I have also written profound and introspective lines about frailties of human relationships and how people connect to each other. When my paintings, poems and sculpture come together it becomes a very potent sensory experience.”
