AISD’s sixth-year distinction places it among Texas’s top 1.3% of all visual art programming.
The Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) has announced the 94 winners of the prestigious 2024 District of Distinction Award, including the Aldine Independent School District (Aldine ISD). It is the sixth consecutive year that Aldine ISD has earned the award.
“This recognition is a testament to Aldine ISD’s unwavering commitment to providing a well-rounded education that advocates and integrates a visual arts curriculum,” said Kaileigh Newman, AISD director of visual arts. “I also have to laud our art teachers for their efforts to inspire creativity, foster social-emotional learning, and connect learners to their community and beyond. And, of course, I have to acknowledge our students. We are so proud of our talented students.
“I couldn’t be more proud of our Visual Arts Department for its achievement. It would not have been possible without the support of our incredible superintendent, school board, administrators, and families who come out to support students throughout the year.”
TAEA is the leading advocate for the visual arts in the state. The organization has honored outstanding TAEA members for their work in their classrooms and districts. As evidenced by data, this is the sixth year that TAEA is honoring districts that meet rigorous criteria.
A rigorous selection process was undertaken for the 2024 award. More than 1,200 districts were eligible to apply, and each district had to meet the 14-point rubric over the 2023-2024 school year. Only 94 districts, including Aldine ISD, met these high standards, placing them in the top 5.5% of districts in the state in art education. Aldine ISD’s sixth-year distinction places it among Texas’s top 1.3% of all visual art programming.
According to Newman, the rubric examines the district’s visual art program, including participation in TAEA through membership, exhibitions, and contests, and community engagement in the visual arts through field experiences, community service, and collaboration with other content areas.
“Aldine ISD has set a high standard for visual arts advocacy, integrated visual arts curriculum, and encouraged creativity, community participation, and student growth,” said Nealy Holley, chair of the Visual Art Administrators of Texas, a division of TAEA. “The TAEA District of Distinction is a designation to be proud of as your district is providing its students with a well-rounded education rich in creative opportunities that ensure success for all.”
