The Visual Arts Department’s second annual Open Studios and Art Fair will be held May 1, 5-7 p.m., throughout the Feigenbaum Center for Visual Arts.

The event, open to the campus community and friends, is an opportunity to purchase student artwork and sample art-making techniques and equipment in a number of studios.

“The whole building turns into one big celebration,” says Victoria Rotondi, coordinator of arts programs. “There’ll be music throughout the building, all supplies are provided, and everyone is welcome, no matter what their skill level.”

The sculpture studio will hold a clay sculpting session in which participants can play with clay and learn to hand build their own bowls and sculptures. The CNC router can be used to carve a wooden name plate, and creative digital-to-physical processes will be explained.

The printmaking studio will work with Matisse-inspired shapes, the digital art studio will give a robotic collage demo, and the drawing studio will host figure drawing with a live model from 5 to 6 p.m.

In the photography studio, visitors can have dramatic black-and-white headshots taken and star as the subject of a famous piece of artwork.

Also featured throughout the evening are magnet making with Pop art images, knitting and crochet demos with the Needlecraft Club, a Pop art film with popcorn, a gourmet hot dog bar and cupcakes.

In addition, visitors may buy student artwork, learn about student art clubs and view the Steinmetz Exhibition in the Crowell and West galleries.

“There are so many options to use our phenomenal resources, ask questions, hang with friends, and just have fun,” Rotondi said.
