Mudam Luxembourg – Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean is seeking a Performance Curator for its Artistic Department (full-time, permanent position). 

Housed in a building designed by Ieoh Ming Pei, Mudam is Luxembourg’s contemporary art museum. Our mission is to collect, preserve and present the most relevant contemporary art of our time and make it accessible to a wide audience. We aim to be a key player in promoting and understanding contemporary art through our exhibitions, publications, and artistic and educational programmes. Located in Europe at the heart of a cosmopolitan country with 179 nationalities, we strive to engage all communities and promote access to contemporary art. We are committed to a more inclusive, tolerant and responsible world where museums play a major role in passing on heritage to future generations.

Under the supervision of the Head of Artistic Department, the Performance Curator plays a crucial role in the Artistic Department by designing and implementing the museum’s performance programme. The role may also include curating exhibitions and contributing to the museum’s acquisitions.

Your mission:
Programming
–Conduct research in the field of performance in dialogue with visual arts, live arts and curatorial practices.
–Develop an innovative, bold, and diverse curatorial vision of performance for all audiences, both in Luxembourg and internationally
–Define programming, budgeting and scheduling for performances in consultation with the Head of Artistic Department and the curatorial team.
–Participate in exhibition programming, strategic content for curatorial meetings and the Artistic Department’s operations.
–Contribute to the strategic alignment of performance within exhibition programming, collection displays and other museum activities, such as events organised by the Publics Department.
Budget and partnerships
–Manage and monitor project-specific and annual budgets in collaboration with the Head of Department, Senior Curator and Financial Director.
–Actively participate in seeking artistic, institutional and financial partnerships.
Project management
–Draft project specifications in collaboration with external contributors (artists, performers, dancers, set designers) and internal teams (production and building managers).
–Oversee the schedule and technical requirements in close collaboration with the production team.
–Write content and interpretation material accessible to all audiences.
–Assist in developing strategic vision and relevant source material for press and marketing.
–Oversee contracts, travel and accommodations of external contributors.
–Organise and manage partnerships and touring projects.
Networking and representation
–Build relationships with other national and international institutions.
–Represent the museum at various events, openings, festivals and juries.
Collection
–Support the acquisition of works for the museum’s collection as needed.

Your profile: 
–Master’s degree in art history, curatorial studies, or humanities, with strong knowledge of 20th-century art, contemporary art and performance history.
–At least three years of experience as a curator in visual and performance arts. 
–Excellent knowledge of international artistic programmes in performance, festivals, exhibitions, participatory practices and related disciplines such as theatre, dance, cinema and music.
–Desired expertise in moving images.
–Proven expertise in project management and performance production in a museum or institutional context, as well as in public spaces.
–Excellent writing skills in French and English.
–Proficiency in budget management, administrative follow-up and production tracking.
–Desired experience in diverse and inclusive programming. 
–Strong interpersonal skills and public communication abilities.
–Ability to work autonomously and in a team. 
–Rigour, pragmatism and ability to handle stress.
–Fluency in oral and written French and English. Knowledge of German and Luxembourgish is an asset. 
–Proficiency in computer softwares. 
–Flexibility in working hours (evening and weekend work as needed).
